Overview of eMail Tracking

Be aware that products exist that track emails.  The purchaser of these products can add an element to an email that will notify the sender when and at what location the email was opened, printed or forwarded.  It will also tell the sender to whom it was forwarded and the location of the computer that received the forwarded email.  The sender will actually receive a map showing the trail of the email and a timeline of the number of times the email is opened, printed or forwarded!

One other tracking mechanism is based on use of the same service.  If someone sent you email from, for instance, their GMAIL, and your email address is also in GMAIL, the GMAIL server has full accounting as to when you downloaded and opened that item.  Consequently, if you forward that email to another GMAIL account, the tracking will be maintained and available to the original sender.  Likewise for other email services.
